Post-treatment care is an essential yet often underestimated part of laser tattoo removal. Thankfully NAAMA’s laser technology is skin-safe so there’s less downtime, making aftercare more simple. Here’s our advice for aiding the healing process and achieving smooth, healthy skin.
We apply medical grade dressings that stay on for 72 hours to protect and hydrate the skin.
In the week following your treatment, we recommend keeping the area covered and not exposing it to direct sunlight till the area is healed. Practicing sun-safe skincare is cool, so keep at it and regularly apply sunscreen with high SPF and UVA 4*+ rating throughout your removal journey, between your treatments and for a month after. Consistency is key!
Looking a little crispy? Unfortunately, we won’t be able to treat your tattoo if the area is burned, blistered or deeply tanned at any time during your journey. We’ll wait until the area is fully healed.
Keep the area well moisturised by applying NAAMA’s aftercare creams, which have been specifically formulated to aid the removal process.
Gentle skin routine
Skin should remain cool and calm in the days following treatment, so avoid intense exercise, steam rooms, saunas and hot baths. Minimise skin irritation by not exfoliating, waxing, tweezing or threading.

Frequently asked questions
How do I take care of my skin after laser tattoo removal?
Aftercare starts as soon as your treatment is done and is a great way to supercharge your results. Your consultant will put together a post-treatment protocol for you to follow so your skin recovers and heals as quickly as possible.
You can help speed up your removal by:
Keeping the dressing on for a minimum of 72 hours.
Avoiding direct water pressure if possible when showering for 72 hours to avoid ripping the dressing.
Applying NAAMA aftercare cream to the treated area 2x a day for 2 weeks.
Practising sun-safe skincare by keeping the area covered for a week after treatment. Then regularly apply sunscreen with high SPF and UVA 4*+ rating throughout your removal journey, between your treatments and for a month after.
Avoiding scratching or rubbing the direct and surrounding area.
How long does the skin take to heal after tattoo removal?
Try to keep your dressing on as long as possible, up to 72 hours after your treatment. It’ll naturally fall off when the skin is healed.
Can I take a shower after tattoo removal?
Yes you can take a shower after your tattoo removal and you can shower with your dressing on. It’s medical grade quality and water-resistant so it’ll keep your tattoo dry if some water splatters on it. However, we recommend trying to keep the area out of direct water pressure while the dressing is still on. We recommend avoiding spending time in hot water, so no scolding showers, baths or hot tubs.
What should I do when the dressing comes off?
If the dressing comes off, that’s ok. Keep the area uncovered and apply a thin layer of our vegan and specially formulated NAAMA aftercare creams over the treated area to keep it moisturised while it continues to heal. Please resist the urge to apply cling film over the area as it will suffocate the skin and we don’t want that! We’ll provide you with extra dressing to take home if you need.
If the corners or the dressing are peeling off, try to keep the dressing on for another day or so. If there is any air going inside the dressing, we advise you to remove the dressing completely, apply a thin layer of the NAAMA aftercare cream and do not redress it.
My skin feels itchy. Can I scratch it?
It’s natural if the skin feels a bit itchy after treatment. It’s best if you don’t scratch or rub the treated or surrounding area and that you keep the dressing on and let the skin naturally heal. If you have any questions or concerns, contact our studio manager Melina. You’ll be in good hands - email@example.com or +44 7429 983355.
I see some redness and swelling. What’s happening?
Some redness and raising of the skin can be quite normal after treatment if you have sensitive skin, but if it continues please give us a call. We’re always here to help and we’ve got a dermatologist available 24/7 to help advise further if needed. If you have any questions or concerns, contact our studio manager Melina. You’ll be in good hands - firstname.lastname@example.org or +44 7429 983355.
I see some blisters after my treatment. What do I do?
Sounds like you might have had a stronger response to treatment this time and we would expect the blister to go down on its own over the next couple of days. Please follow the below advice to care for the area:
Do not pop the blister, leave it alone as much as possible.
If your dressing remains in tact and there is no fluid leaking, please keep the dressing on for the full 72 hours post treatment. This will prevent further fluid build up under the skin and keep the area protected.
If the dressing is coming off from the skin, please gently soak the remainder off and dry the area. Once clean, apply our NAAMA aftercare cream over the whole area to keep it hydrated and protected.
If the area begins to feel hot to the touch, if you feel any intense pain, if any signs of redness increase or you feel unwell, please contact us immediately at email@example.com or +44 7429 983355.
What should I do if I feel I am having an adverse reaction?
Before your session yes, but after your session there are a few things to be mindful of. We don’t recommend any high intensity exercise for 48 hours after a session, but other things like yoga, pilates, or stretching are okay, and actually encouraged as this will help your body continue to clear the pigment. We’ll give you exercise and stretching guidelines to follow post your treatment.
Can I go swimming after tattoo removal?
You can get in the water once the treated area is fully healed (up to 72 hours after your session) and the dressing is removed. If you are visiting the beach, keep the area covered for a week (no sand getting in there!) and apply high SPF and UVA 4*+ sunscreen between your treatments and for a month after. We recommend avoiding spending time in hot water, like hot tubs.
Can I go out in the sun during tattoo removal?
In the week following your treatment, we recommend keeping the area covered and not exposing it to direct sunlight till the area is healed. Practise sun-safe by regularly applying sunscreen with high SPF and UVA 4*+ rating throughout your removal journey, between your treatments and for a month after.
Can I go on holiday after tattoo removal?
You can, but if you're travelling somewhere warm there are a few things to note. In the week following your treatment we recommend keeping the area covered and not exposing it to direct sunlight till the area is healed. I have a tan, can I still remove my tattoo?
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to treat your tattoo if the area is burned, blistered or deeply tanned at any time during your journey. We’ll wait until the area is fully healed.
Can I go into a tanning bed during tattoo removal?
Getting that summer glow? We ask that you avoid sun tanning and tanning beds up to 4-6 weeks before treatment. Unfortunately, we can’t treat skin that’s burned, peeling, recovering from UV exposure or inflamed from tanning of any kind.
Can I use fake tan during tattoo removal?
To get the best results from your treatment, we strongly suggest you do not apply fake tan before or during your treatment journey. When you use fake tan to darken your complexion, you change the tone of your natural skin. Our treatments are best done on your natural skin.
Can I apply makeup after tattoo removal?
We ask that you wait 72-hours before applying makeup to the treated area.
Do tattoo removal creams work to remove tattoos?
We don’t recommend using tattoo removal creams to remove tattoos.
