Color tattoos have an undeserved reputation for being stubborn and difficult to remove.

Color tattoos have an undeserved reputation for being stubborn and difficult to remove. A misconception that the LightSense® laser system set out to address a decade ago now.

With the best laser for color tattoo removal, unwanted ink pigments need not be recalcitrant and stubborn to remove.

Though it is possible to remove a color tattoo with the right laser technology, it will likely be trickier to remove than a black ink tattoo. The success of tattoo removal also depends on a number of other factors.

They include:

  • Size and color of the tattoo

  • Location of the tattoo

  • Type of ink used and density

  • The picosecond laser used

It is entirely possible to safely and completely remove a color tattoo at NAAMA with the correct wavelength laser. Our exclusive access to the one-of-a-kind 800nm LightSense® laser means we can remove more colors on the color spectrum.

Can you laser remove color tattoos?

Yes, you can laser color tattoos, but some colors are more difficult to remove than others.

Darker colors absorb a broader spectrum of light. This means that most laser wavelengths are capable of penetrating darker inks, shattering them so that the body can flush them out. For that reason, the easiest tattoo colors to remove are the darker ones such as black, blue, green, and deep purple.

On the other hand, lighter colors absorb only a narrow range of wavelengths. They may therefore require more treatments, or leave subtle traces of color in the skin. This makes white ink the hardest tattoo color to remove.

Color tattoo removal for dark skin

Whilst NAAMA confidently and safely removes black ink from dark skin, we cannot remove colored ink if you have a skin type that falls within types 4, 5 and 6 on the Fitzpatrick scale. This is because the melanin in these skin types could be harmed by the lasers we use for color ink, potentially leading to hypopigmentation.

What is the best way to remove colored ink tattoos?

Laser tattoo removal is the safest and quickest option for any color tattoo.

Our golden rules for laser tattoo removal aftercare here at NAAMA are:

Keep your medical-grade dressing on for 72 hours post-treatment.

Avoid exposing the treated area to the sun during the first few days afterward.

Keep the area well moisturized using our specially formulated aftercare creams.

Avoid intense exercise, steam rooms, saunas, and hot baths for 72 hours.

Don’t do anything that could irritate your skin, such as waxing, exfoliating, tweezing, or threading until the area has healed.
