How does laser tattoo removal work?

The process works by using the LightSense® laser beam to break apart the ink-filled macrophages that make up a tattoo into smaller particles.

The resulting fragments of ink are then simply flushed out of the body through the lymphatic system. The following video illustrates this process in greater detail.

How laser tattoo removal works

How long does laser tattoo removal take?

The process is repeated until all the ink is removed. On average it takes 8-12 laser removal sessions to fully clear a tattoo.

The LightSense™ laser system uses ultra-low energy in tandem with a precise spot size to target the ink without damaging the surrounding skin. With no skin damage there is less downtime, treatments can take place as often as every 2-3 weeks.

How long does laser tattoo removal take?

It takes 8-12 sessions on average to fully remove a tattoo, while permanent makeup removal generally requires 3-5 sessions. Tattoos are as unique as you are, which means these figures can sometimes be less, sometimes more.

Three factors determine how long removal might take: the tattoo style; health and lifestyle; and your personalized treatment plan.

Balanced lifestyle

Each tattoo is unique. The depth, density, color, and type of ink can all have an impact on treatment length.
