It's time to de-mystify tattoo removal. With so much false information out there, we're here to lay out the facts. Let’s set the record straight on some of the most common myths surrounding laser tattoo removal.
“You can’t remove colored tattoos”
Most lasers can’t but at NAAMA we can thanks to our advanced LightSense® laser system. We’re particularly good at removing red, blue, and greens. In fact we have the only tattoo removal laser system with an 800nm laser, this wavelength is superior at targeting colored inks. However, the client’s skin tone is a factor and we will advise on this during your initial consultation.
“All lasers are the same”
Lasers are used for all sorts of cosmetic treatments from correcting vision to removing body hair. They’re all different with varying light wavelengths, techniques, and compounds. For laser tattoo removal, the best lasers use high intensity pulses combined with low levels of energy that is gentle on skin. Pulsing up to 1,000 times a second, NAAMA’s exclusive LightSense® laser system operates at a rate that is 100 times faster than the average pico laser. Pairing exceptional speed with ultra-low levels of energy is one of the reasons why treatment with NAAMA is relatively painless versus other, older technologies.
“Lasers burn off layers of skin to get to the ink”
Thankfully this isn’t the case. The LightSense® laser system allows light to travel directly to the dermis, the layer of skin that lies beneath the epidermis, where the ink sits. The light breaks up the ink particles, which the immune system can then process out of the body, leaving your skin unharmed.
“The more powerful the laser, the more effective it is”
Laser tattoo removal is a complex process so more power does not mean more effectiveness. Our technology pulses light very rapidly and in a really concentrated way, which means it can use lower energies and still achieve exceptional results.
“You should combine laser with bleaching creams”
This would be a very bad idea. The laser treatment doesn’t need to be used in combination with anything else, and bleaching creams should never be used as they are dangerous and damaging to the skin. Our aftercare creams are designed to be moisturizing, hydrating, and healing for the skin.
“It takes 10 treatments to remove a tattoo”
It may take fewer, it may take more - so don’t believe any studio that claims to be able to predict exactly how many sessions you need before you begin. Like your tattoo, your removal journey is unique and there are several factors that our expert nurses will take into account when devising your personalized treatment plan. A tattoo’s location, density, and color as well as your own health and lifestyle all have an impact on treatment length and recovery time.
“The bigger the tattoo, the more laser treatments you need”
A large tattoo can be just as easy to remove as a smaller one. There’s much more to a tattoo than simply size. The colors, composition, intricacy, and age are all important factors, as is its position on the body.
