If you have a piece of coloured body art that you no longer want, you might be concerned about the reputation that coloured tattoos have for being harder to remove than black ink tattoos.

Whilst a colour tattoo is definitely trickier to remove than black, the success of your removal ultimately comes down to your skin type and the exact colours you have in your tattoo. This means that the number of treatment sessions you’ll need to remove a colour tattoo will depend on you and your tattoo.

One of the most significant factors that influence laser colour tattoo removal is the wavelength of the laser being used.

At NAAMA, our LightSense™ technology is the only system in the world that uses a 800nm wavelength. Why does this make a difference? Because it means that the system can remove more colours on the colour spectrum - more on this below:

Can you laser colour tattoos?

Yes, you can laser colour tattoos, but some colours are more difficult to remove than others.

Darker colours absorb a broader spectrum of light. This means that most laser wavelengths are capable of penetrating darker inks, shattering them so that the body can flush them out. For that reason, the easiest tattoo colours to remove are the darker ones such as black, blue, green, and deep purple.

On the other hand, lighter colours absorb only a narrow range of wavelengths. They may therefore require more treatments, or leave subtle traces of colour in the skin. This makes white ink the hardest tattoo colour to remove.

Whilst NAAMA confidently and safely removes black ink from dark skin, we cannot remove coloured ink if you have a skin type that falls within types 4, 5 and 6 on the Fitzpatrick scale. This is because the melanin in these skin types could be harmed by the lasers we use for colour ink, potentially leading to hypopigmentation.

Every person and every tattoo is unique, so everyone reacts differently to treatment.

What is the best way to remove coloured ink tattoos?

Laser is the safest and quickest option for any colour tattoo removal. However, your aftercare routine is equally important as the procedure itself as good aftercare will help your skin heal quicker.
