FAQs

Permanent makeup removal follows the same process as laser tattoo removal. First, we use the laser to break down the ink pigment into smaller particles. Your immune system then steps in to remove these particles from your body. Repeat until it’s all clear!

Our LightSense™ laser system is a skin-safe and gentle way to treat delicate areas of the face. The low-energy pulses significantly reduce the risk of blistering, scarring or lasting damage (this is your face, after all) while our incredibly accurate spot size means we can target the ink with superior precision.

Yes! We exclusively use the LightSense™ laser; a safe laser removal system for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick 4-6 skin types, see image below). Our low-energy pulses and precise spot size means we can safely and effectively clear permanent makeup without damaging the skin’s natural melanin.

There are some restrictions on treating coloured inks on darker skin tones. We’re working on a breakthrough, but in the meantime you can speak to one of our experts if you have any questions.

Most clients achieve their desired results in 3-5 sessions, but it varies. Some require fewer sessions (even just one) while others might require more.

Factors such as the type of your cosmetic tattoo, its density, and your health and lifestyle all play a part. Generally speaking, permanent makeup removal is faster than tattoo removal as the ink isn’t inserted as deeply into the skin.

Our experts can advise how many sessions you might require at the start of your removal journey.

The safety of your skin is our top priority, but providing it’s fully healed we can start removing permanent makeup as soon as 6 weeks after it’s applied.

With our skin-kind laser, you can return for permanent makeup removal every 2-3 weeks.

The skin needs far less time to heal following treatment with LightSense™ compared to standard lasers. It’s all thanks to our accurate energy distribution and low-energy pulses, which are just as effective but much gentler on your skin.

We exclusively use the LightSense™ laser system at NAAMA. It’s much more gentle on the skin than standard technologies and as a result, many of our clients say laser removal with us is less painful than they expected or have experienced elsewhere.

We know that pain is entirely subjective, so we work with your tolerance to find the right balance in your sessions.

Oxidation is when the colour of the ink changes due to a chemical reaction with the laser. It’s always a risk when removing permanent makeup and cosmetic tattoos, but we can monitor and treat it, and have had amazing results with permanent makeup removals.

On lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick 1-3 skin types), the ink can develop red and then yellow tones, both of which can be treated successfully.

On darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick 4-6 skin types), permanent makeup can oxidise to red and purple tones. These colours are more difficult to remove, but our consultants will be able to adjust your treatment plan to achieve the best possible results.

Lip blushing - which can be removed on Fitzpatrick 1-3 skin types - can sometimes oxidise to a grey tone. This might remain for a few days or throughout treatment, but will return to normal by the end of your removal.

As always, we’re happy to answer any questions you might have about oxidised ink.

Examples of the different Fitzpatrick skin types can be found below.
