JAMIE'S HOPEFUL FUTURE

“This has changed my life, it changed my future.”

Father of four Jamie was nominated for SECOND CHANCES by The Nehemiah Project. Here is his story.

My name is Jamie and I live in Croydon, I was born not far from here. I got the tattoo on my face a few years ago. I don’t know why I got it. It was a moment of madness. “They should have shot me when I was born” at the time that's what I thought. I wasn’t in a good place and I hated the world and I didn't want to go on. It wasn’t a very pleasant time.

I struggled at one point but I know I am a good person. The tattoo was a reminder of where I was when I was in that bad place. When the tattoo is gone, that's gone. People used to stare and tried to see what is on my face. I look like a new person. Everybody around me can see that.

As time went on my little girl got older and she started asking what it said. If I am honest, I stopped noticing it but it's not a very nice thing for her to see. She is 10 now and I don’t want her to see it. I got this opportunity and I just grabbed it. The whole process has been exceptional. The NAAMA team has first-class abilities and I look forward to coming in every time.

NAAMA Studios has been amazing. I feel very welcome and put at ease. The removal wasn’t really painful for me, I have no scarring. Everyone is amazed at it and anyone who has seen it can’t believe it. It’s changed my life. Onwards and upwards for me. I’ve got more confidence. I am more approachable. It’s a huge relief that my grandchildren will never have to see it. It’s like it was never there.

It took only four sessions and you can't read it now. I'm forever grateful, I get a bit emotional about it. For what everyone's done. I just take one day at a time now... I have built my relationships back with my children. I feel like a new person, I feel like a real me. I am proud now of who I am. Now I have 7 grandchildren and I am really happy they won’t see it, I won’t have to explain what it means. I feel very lucky, I feel amazing. I am simply enjoying life, looking forward every day. This experience changed my life.
